International Educational Tool Fair in Rovaniemi, Finland 2019

Digijeunes travelled to Rovaniemi in the north of Finland to take part in the Erasmus+ 14th International Tool Fair in November 2019. The Tool Fair lasted 4 days and was packed full of talks, workshops, events and activities, bringing together 120 professional youth workers from across Europe.

As part of the Tool Fair, Chloe from Digijeunes ran a workshop on Digital Maker Education and the importance of involving digital activities in youth work. The youth workers came from a range of backgrounds, with very different amounts of experience in digital subjects. Together we followed our Eggbot workshop, building the robot and create designs that could be used with it.

The tutorial can be found on our Tutorial page along with the presentation that we gave on Digital Maker Education. We were incredibly happy to also receive such great feedback from the participants, including:

Even if I would not be able to manage a session with this tool myself, I am now very motivated to co-operate with tech experts to design and implement such activities together.

I will tell every youthworker in Styria about this!

Chloe also took part the workshops ran by Juha and Olli from Verke (the national centre for expertise on Digital youth work in Finland). The workshop involved using a Micro:bit and hacking an old telephone from the 60s to make calculators! It was great to see this type of workshop being so appealing to such a large group of youth workers and seeing their enthusiasm for wanting to implement such activities in their own practises. It was also incredibly refreshing for us to meet another team focusing on this type of education!

A big thank you goes to everyone involved in organising the Tool fair and bringing all of us together for a super inspirational and educational few days. We look forward to participating in a similar event in the future.
