Maker Education in Youth Work in Albania, Autumn 2021

The first of two training courses on Maker Education took place in Tirana, Albania at the end of November in 2021. This was a week long course bringing together Youth workers from France, Latvia, Albania, Italy and Romania, to learn about Maker Education methods and activities.

Hosted by Arduino Albania and led by Digijeunes, the workshops involved learning about:
➡ Design Engineering: How to create and lead young people through design challenges
➡ Introduction to Arduino and programming
➡ Why use Digital technology in youth work?
➡ Introduction to Computer Aided Design
➡ Introduction to digital fabrication: 3D printing and CNC
➡ Digital Maker Education in Youth Work: What resources are available?
➡ What is a Makerspace? How can we make sure they are inclusive?

It was a great week exploring different techniques and activities, whilst hearing about each others experiences in Youth Work. The presentations, tutorials and resources we were using throughout the week are available on our website, through the Tutorial page.

We also enjoyed free time together, exploring the city of Tirana. One of our participants, who lived locally in Tirana, welcomed us to a school production which gave us an insight into the history of Albania, along with traditional outfits and dances. This was a great experience and we thank the school for letting us be a part of it!

We will be returning to Tirana in the new year to run the second course. This will involve the same programme but give a different group of participants the opportunity to have this learning experience. Due to continued travel restrictions over this period, we hope those who were unable to travel last time, will be able to join in February along we other who have previously applied. We will not be opening a call for participants for this second course, as we already have sufficient applicants from the previous call.

Thanks again to all the participants for making this such a great workshop! We look forward to seeing you all again in the future.
